SV DataDump Format

Postby rwendner » Wed Aug 03, 2016 12:55 pm

The current StateVariableDataDump files contain no information on the SVs dumped.
I believe every column in the file should have a clear heading. Please add a header with the information of the dumped SVindices and SVlabels.

It would also help if the header contained the information about the step (not only in the filename).
In general I think output files should also contain information about the MARS version used.

The header could like something like:
MARS version 2016.7.47
compiled 2016-07-23
CompTime: xxxxx
RealTime: xxxx
Dumped SVs:2
12 Labelxxx
27 Labelyyy

7.92551e-20 -5.41069e+08
5.82411e-20 -5.48788e+08
2.1361e-20 6.91136e+06
1.06364e-20 -1.82204e+06
1.80983e-20 -1.17518e+08
...

Update:

The FacetDataDump command has a different output structure although also facet values are being exported.
In this case the keyword RealTime and its current value are provided (similar to what was suggested in the previous post).
However, again information about the number of fields that are exported is missing, as is the label of the fields.

Please add this information in a header for easier post-processing.
It would also help for efficient reading, especially of large files, to include the number of facets in the header.

Update:

ParticleDataDump writes the coordinates and radii of all particles.
For efficient reading also here the number of particles should be provided in the header.

As before, it would be important to add the number of fields that are exported as well as their labels to the header.

Since the ParticleDataDump contains the coordinates of all particles we could consider also exporting the facet center coordinates in the FacetDataDump and SVDataDump files.
Similarly, the IPDataDump and SVDataDump for Hex elements do not include the location of the IPs for which the SVs are exported. Neither are the number of SVs and their labels.

Can you please share with us a timeline for the update to the
LDPM:
- StateVariableDataDump
- FacetDataDump-
- ParticleDataDump files

- information on number of facets / IPS / particles exported to facilitate quick reading
- header with SV labels / field labels / strain labels (also information on how many fields, SVs,... are exported)

Xinwei,

I have to set up some more advanced post processing for my research project and desperately need the dump files to be completed.
Can you please help me with these few updates ?

This is also important for the development of our MFEM, MLDPM modules as well as new formulations for the beam concrete interaction.
